The Grants Pass Museum of Artis the city's primary resource for exhibitions and collections of fine art and has been for more than 24 years. Located in the heart of the historic old town, our galleries offer opportunities for learning, introspection and connection with cultures from around the world. Participation and education in the arts create a balance in our community that promotes individuality, camaraderie and a consciousness of our surroundings. The Museum's mission is to enrich lives by offering art experiences that stimulate the senses, intrigue the intellect and bring joy to the spirit. As a non-profit organization, our members, friends, volunteers and generous donors make all exhibits and programs doable.

Schmidt House Museum

After Anna and Flora donated their home to the Josephine County Historical Society, the Board decided to continue the Schmidt's tradition of hospitality by developing the house as a museum to benefit the community. The Schmidt House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 21, 2004, confirming the historic significance of the house. Historic buildings are a community's tangible link with the past in a world in which rapid technological change is occurring. Today, and in future generations, visitors can tour the Schmidt House Museum and get the feeling that all is as the Schmidt family might have left it in the early 1900s. These tours help give guests a sense of community identity and an orientation to their heritage.

Reframing encapsulates the tangible nature of museum work–what we restore, revive, and rebuild–and the intangible nature of museum work–where we reflect, interpret, educate, and shift perspectives. On a larger scale, Reframing gives us the power to redefine who we are, why we’re important, and how we connect with and show up for our community. Reframing is resistance and resilience.
